March is what I consider to be a very awkward transitional stage for my wardrobe. It’s not summer yet- in fact, in Scotland it’s more winter than winter actually was. We’ve just about saw the back of 6 inches of snow in the city centre. It’s hard to know what to start buying that I’ll actually be able to wear right now, but is also going to serve me as soon as spring does decide to come around. One of my favourite trends this season is suits and they really make the perfect transitional piece because they can be worn as cool or cosy or sporty or dressy as you wish. I’m not sure how many times I was told I was giving off serious “Clueless” vibes when I wore this checked co-ord out to Belfast on Tuesday. I’m not complaining, I was totally digging the look even it wasn’t my intended aesthetic for the night. Checks are coming back in a big way for S/S18 and I can’t think of any better way to wear this trend than in a badass blazer and skirt! I had my eye on this one from Topshop for so long and finally caved a few weeks ago when I panicked that it would sell out and i’d live out the rest of my days with regret over not purchasing it. I’m a little melodramatic when it comes to the outfits that never were. I feel like when you buy your first suit it’s a little bit daunting. But now that i’ve worn it once i’d happily wear it forever. There really is something badass and edgier about wearing a suit on a night out- it’s not the first thing people expect you to show up in and honestly, I live for that shock factor. (Sidenote: there is a jumpsuit in the exact same pattern and it’s amazing).
There are so many different ways to wear this co-ord! In the top pictures I wore it dressed up with strappy black heels. I’ve styled it below with an orange tee (also from Topshop), tied in a knot with tights (because it isn’t summer in Northern Ireland quite yet) and Dr Marten’s.
Sports-luxe is another one of my favourite trends coming in for Spring/Summer 18 and my feed these past couple of months, especially during fashion week, has been flooded with people dressing up their tracksuit bottoms with a pair of heels, or dressing down their suits with a sports tee. I love it and i’m ready to let all my favourite sports brands back into my wardrobe just in time for summer. This time, I teamed my suit with an Adidas Original’s tee and my Stan Smith’s making this the perfect everyday sports-luxe look. If you want some more inspiration on how to nail this trend, check out @lissyroddyy on Instagram. She is the queen of the suit and trainers combo.
There are so many other gorgeous suits online at the minute. Here are some of my favourites! I’ve also included some of my favourite checked items. Happy shopping!
